The Godfather 2 game was released in 2009. The game is a follow up to the first game released in 2006, a game that actually has the last acting work from Marlon Brando who famously won an academy award for his work as Don Vito Corleone.
The Godfather 2 game starts in Cuba with your character who is a fictional addition just for the game and not in the Godfather film series. He is at a meeting with Michael Corleone and Hyman Roth. Al Pacino didn’t give his likeness to the character of Michael which is strange at first but you get used to it quickly enough to be fair. The story follows that of the film for the main missions and its fun to be part of some infamous godfather II scenes.

The best part of this game is how fun it is. The graphics while dated compared to games currently being released it is a vast improvement from that of the first game. With fully customisable characters it’s possible to create the gangster you’ve always wanted to play. You essentially take over rackets, battle rival families, do favours in return for information on rival families soldiers and Capos. You’re helping out crooked cops, politicians, CIA agents and it’s a really fun and engaging game.
The game does tie in with the godfather film by inserting Dominic into scenes and situations but they are often played up a little. The tone doesn’t always match that if the film but it makes for a more engaging gaming experience.
You play as Dominic and you can build your own family and even have Tom Hagen as your Consiglieri. You are able to recruit your own soldiers and make them soldiers, promote them to captain and underboss. If you think they need to be replaced or don’t want them anymore you can also mark them for death and have them whacked. These guys are fully customisable from their skillset (Explosives expert, Engineer, Medic etc.. ) their weapons, abilities, outfits and it’s a lot of fun to have your crew with you while you take down your enemies.

The Game is playable in New York, Miami and Cuba which is such a great addition and makes the game feel so large and expansive. Think GTA but in several cities and with music from the Godfather films.
Once of my favourite aspects of the game is the way you and your family go to war with rivals until there’s only one man left standing. The large weapons wheel and bonuses you get too are incredible. If you own a monopoly on certain crime rings you get benefits such as:
- Bullet proof vests
- Larger gun belts
- Increased money earned per day
- Bullet proof vehicles

So if you want to be a part of the Corleone family I have to recommend this game. The story can be finished quickly enough but there is so many side missions to keep you entertained for hours.
One of the drawbacks is that some of the rackets you take over are very similar and can get a little repetitive.
Overall though it’s a fun game and ties itself into the story of the films. If you’re a godfather fan you should definitely check this out and if you enjoy an open world game with lots of shooting, bank robbing and twisting plots try this out.
