#151 – A quiet place II – FIRST FILM IN CINEMA IN 2021

For the first time in the year of 2021 I got to go to the cinema and see a new film! Originally meant to be released in March of 2020. This film was a delight to see and I’m so excited to talk about it!

Directed by: John Krasinski

Written by: John Krasinski & Scott Beck

Starring : Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Joup, Djimon Honsou & John Krasinski

The Plot

The film picks up immediately after the end of the first film. The family leave their home and search for a new place to survive. Along the way they meet an old friend (Cillian Murphy) who’s lost his entire family since the invasion. They must work separately to try and find safety and kill as many monsters as possible along the way. This is a tense and thrilling film from the opening shot right to the closing scene.

My thoughts

The opening sequence of this film was a masterclass in tension and suspense building. The film opens on day 1 of the alien invasion on earth. Things are normal then suddenly out if nowhere they fall from the sky and begin their reign of terror. Anything that makes any noise is killed almost immediately. It doesn’t take long for complete chaos to unfold and its a spectacle that should be seen on the big screen.

The acting was incredible here with the entire cast giving powerful performances. The child actors are exceptional and they make every single second seem real and authentic as well as horrifying. Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy give brilliant performances in their roles. Murphy being a more closed off and beaten down survivor who trusts nobody when the family find him first. During the duration of the film he begins to discover his faith in humanity again. Emily Blunt yet again is incredible. She’s a total badass and handles all of her action moments with complete believability and it’s so great to watch.

Like the original film the music and sound mixing in this film is utterly nerve shattering. The silence and suspense of any movement gave me goosebumps. John Krasinski has proven himself to be as talented behind the camera as he is in front of it. The film captures the post apocalyptic World so well and the empty, violent remains is all that’s left of a world that’s unrecognisable to prior to the invasion.

This film is full of drama, suspense, action, Horror and the love between a family. It was such a great film to see first now that the cinemas are open here again in Ireland. Here’s hoping there’s a quiet place part III.

10/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    1. Yeah I think I enjoyed the second one more because the world is already set up and we know the rules with dealing with the creatures. It’s definitely a film more focused on the characters and not just the scary monsters. I thought it was such a solid film and really good sequel too!
