* The Story *
The suicide squad are sent to the island of Corto Moltese with high tech weaponry and a team of elite killers and weirdo’s. The squad must aid in the destruction of this country who’s in the possession of a potential alien creature that threatens the US. With only Col. Rick Flag to keep this bizarre team together, things are going to be wild.
I sat down in the cinema last night at half 7 to watch the suicide squad. I got a Coke and popcorn and I was ready for a good time. I knew about the insane ensemble cast and James Gunn directing, I felt in good hands and I was excited. The Guardians of the Galaxy films are some of my favourite Marvel films. This film was the most fun I’ve had in the cinema with a film since Once upon a time in Hollywood back in August 2019. Simply put this film is hilarious, brutal, violent, irreverent and one of the best DC films in a long time. James Gunn came in here with a new cast of characters and some old cast members from the 2016 conveluted mess of a film. The 2016 version had its moments but this film from start to finish I was glued to the screen, laughing and at times almost over stimulated with the sheer amount of violence on display.
The soundtrack in this movie was great, right from the intro with Johnny Cash to Aerosmith and Queen. The balance between the high octane and colourful action was complemented so well with the soundtrack.
This film subverted my expectations at just about every chance it could. If I thought something might happen almost every time there was some twist or turn that just made the whole film unpredictable and chaotic, just like the suicide squad should be.
James Gunn was the perfect choice for DC to helm this project. His writing style and direction are so perfectly suited to the team Superhero dynamic. It makes me wonder what the original could have been if Gunn was at the helm. This may very well be the best DC film since the Dark Knight and Watchmen.

The entire suicide squad gave in great and fun performances. It seemed that all involved were having a lot of fun with the material and surreal situations they found themselves in. In particular for me the stand outs had to be Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and John Cena. The character of Rick flag who was the leader of the team in the original film as well as this was incredibly improved here. He was better written, he had a chance to have a personality and genuinely be involved with the team. He felt like such a generic character in the first. Idris Elba and John Cena play very similar characters and they have hilarious back and forth banter and get so competitive over who’s the most effective assassin. Margot Robbie yet again shines and shows us for the third time why she’s the perfect live action Harley Quinn. Another actor or voice performance that was incredible and almost stole the entire film was Sylvester Stallone as King shark. They made this character be one of the stupidest, funniest, scariest, sweetest and most violent character in a film full of crazy killers. Stallone did so much with so few lines and I couldn’t think of a better actor to play him and please please give us more King shark in the future. The rest of the cast of characters was incredible, seeing captain boomerang back was brilliant and he had some hilarious lines and action scenes. Rat catcher 2 was another addition to the film and she along with her rats gave a surprising amount of heart to the story. Her scenes with her father played by Taika Waititi we’re beautiful, tender and heart breaking. Polkadot man also provides plenty of hilarious and upsetting moments also. All and all this is one wild team that I really enjoyed watching throughout.
I had so much fun with this film! It’s big and bright while also having a lot of heart, tension and emotion. The balance between comedy, drama and action was sublime. At times the violence was so much but for me it never fully went into over the top for the sake of it. They didn’t jump the king shark completely is what I’m saying. I highly recommend this film, its a great night out and me and my girlfriend had an absolute blast for the 2 hours. I already can’t wait to watch it for a second time.
The suicide squad 2021 is DC at its most dark, twisted and hilarious!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10
I have been waiting for this for ages. It piqued my enthusiasm when it was announced. Being an avid comic book reader myself, I have found myself drawn to comic book adaptations more often than not. But DC’s treatment of those films were not so satisfactory, exceptions being its TV shows, DCAU and Christopher Nolan’s Trilogy. Now, DC has got me all into it with its post Snyder plan. I would love to see where this goes. There’s still a part of me which wants to see Snyder’s vision fulfilled but I must say I am not too crazy about it.

Oh I thought I’d definitely surpassed the original 2016 film and it’s so fun and exactly what you want a suicide squad movie to be. I hope if they do a sequel that James Gunn returns to write and direct again.
Yeah I see what you mean and I am excited for the Robert Patterson a.k.a Rob bat battin bat as the new batman next year. I’ve I’ve enjoyed all of the Synder DC films, watchmen is definitely my favourite. I always thought man of Steel got a bad rap it’s a real good Superman film. I suppose with the Snyder cut of Justice League that he kind of got to see most of his vision play out at least.

“Rob bat battin bat” is something that I am more than excited for. The trailer gave me the vibe a batman film should have. I am so hopeful of the film that I can’t even contain it. Keeping my fingers crossed and I am sure it is going to be a critical masterpiece. I believe in Matt Reeves chase for perfection.
