65 is a sci-fi film starring Adam driver as the pilot of a ship which crash lands on earth. The only issue is that it’s 65 million years ago and the planet his character is from haven’t mapped or explored the dinosaur covered planet.
Right from the get go this 90 minute action/ Sci-fi film moves at a rapid pace. It was very refreshing that it wasn’t dragged out to a two hour film or longer. This film told a short and concise story with a tight script and compelling two characters. The film only has four characters in the entire film but at the core it’s the pilot and the only survivor from the crash, a young girl who speaks a different language than he does. Watching the pair learn to communicate with each other and become a team was brilliant.
What I enjoyed most about the film was the dynamic between the two lead characters. There’s a language divide and they’re strangers in a life or death situation. They both save each other’s lives throughout and had so many intense, dramatic and funny moments together.
This film isn’t the next great sci-fi classic, it’s no 2001 a space Odyssey or Jurassic Park for that matter but it’s a well crafted and very entertaining film. I was invested immediately, now admittedly if you’ve got dinosaurs in your film at the very least I’m highly curious.
65 was a genuine blast to go see on the big screen and I can definitely see myself watching this one on a rainy Sunday or after I’ve watched the good Jurassic park films and feel like skipping the most recent two. 65 felt like a late 80’s or 90’s film in the best way possible! Honestly if you’re looking for a sci-fi action film with dinosaurs and meteor showers, well that’s very specific but goddamn does this film deliver on that premise !
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 7/10
I do love me some dinosaurs… and Adam Driver is definitely watchable.
