#117 – My name is Earl (2005-2009) – The King of Karma

My name is Earl was just added to Disney +recently and what a treat it was. I haven’t watched the show in years but I always remembered loving the show and the story it followed. It’s always great when you remember something being great from when you were younger and it actually holds up still.

Just an FYI the show ends on a season 4 cliffhanger after being cancelled so if you decide to watch the show just go into it with that knowledge. I feel like I owe you that much.

The Story

For anyone who doesn’t know the story to this hilarious series here we go. The story follows a low life absolute trailer park trash guy called Earl Hickey. He’s a guy who robs, breaks and finds a way to always do the wrong thing. UNTIL one day when he wins the lottery and seconds later is hit by a car.

Earl finds out about Karma while watching television one day. He decides to make a list of all the wrong things he has done in his life and tries to make up for them. Earl and his brother Randy are the criminal duo turned good guys try to undo some of the bad they’ve done since their childhoods. Through crazy situations, characters and wild crimes we follow Earl as he tries to be a better person.

My thoughts

First of all the idea of Karma is great and I love it I’m in right from the get go!. Earl and Randy okay they’ve nailed the brother dynamic so much. Earl is the ringleader who’s best attribute often is just his moustache. Randy is the well he’s stupid but he’s full of heart and a true gentle giant. The pair of these are the heart and soul of the show and always fun to watch together.

Joy Turner! What can is at about this lot lizard. She’s an insane and quick to anger person. She cheats, she steals and she does so much awful stuff yet I love her. She’s so fun to watch and adds a wild element to an already crazy show.

Earl meets joy one night while he’s drunk and marries her only to realise in the morning she’s at least 6 months pregnant with someone else’s kid.

Darnell a.k.a Crabman marries Joy. Darnell starts off as a cook in the local crabshack where the scum of the town hangs out. As the show goes on we find out Darnell is in the witness protection programme and it’s wild. This show is great for great stories and weird scenarios that always entertain week to week.

The Town of Camden where the show is set too is a character of itself. Camden County is full of some of the trashiest people you’ve ever met. All petty thief’s, burglars and criminals. You’d be doing well to find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy

The whole cast of characters in this show are dodgy criminals. The show uses flashbacks very well so we get to see Earl be a good guy and make ammends but we also get to see how trashy and useless he used to be.

It was a great time watching this over March this year. Such a fun show that you can just relax, sit back and watch 👌
