Last night I was in Dolan’s kasbah social club down on the dock road. We went down to see Modern love play, with Dylon Jack as the opener. I got in there in time to have a couple of Jameson ginger ale and lime before making our way into the back room for an intimate show. The energy and atmosphere down there was perfect for live music. Lots of drinking, chanting, vape smoke and a crowd along for the ride. Walking down there and into the bar made me reminiscent of the iconic Copacabana scene in Goodfellas. So we go in get our hands stamped and shuffle our way through to the front of the stage.
Honestly I hadn’t heard of either acts before I walked in there, didn’t know their names, their songs or their style but it was a great show. Dylon Jack was opening and the crowd engagement was hilarious and back and forth his entire time on stage. He’s got some good music and amazing energy on the stage, he seemed as excited as anyone to be there on that stage. Jack is still in the early stages of his career and the Clare singer with some luck gets to perform and record much more music. He seems so talented and he’s a natural performer.

The headline act was Modern Love. A group on their debut headline tour of Ireland and the UK. These guys have just performed in Manchester and London and from what I heard last night these guys will be around and touring for some time to come. It was hard for me to pinpoint their style as they were performing. There’s definite hints of the 1975, sprinkled with some of the Coronas and shades of the Ramones mixed in there too with their own original take. Right from the first song the entire room was in! and the atmosphere was incredible. The mood in the place was unbelievable and they were undeniable. They already have a good catalogue of music and some cool Music videos on YouTube as well. It was definitely a great night for music in Limerick last night!

I’m so happy live music is back again, just the last 6 months I’ve been able to see my buddy Jack Keeshan play and he was incredible as usual, Don McLean and just a couple of weeks ago my musical hero Bob Dylan in the 3 arena. I didn’t know how much I had missed it really until I was able to go back again and hear music in the same room and share the experience with a crowd is unbelievable.
